Doland Jewelers' History
Since 1986, Doland Jewelers has been selling the finest in quality diamonds and fine jewelry. We have been able to do this over the years by education and earning the trust of our clients. We are an independent and locally owned business in our second generation of jewelry experience with an artistic approach to our profession. We are proud to have two locations located in Davenport, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa. We are jewelers by profession here to help our clients buy, not simply sell them something.
As members of the Retail Jewelers Organization, we have the purchasing power of 750 stores. This gives us the opportunity to buy the newest and most innovative styles on the market at the sharpest prices. We select many of our diamonds on our annual buying trips to Antwerp, Belgium, the diamond capital of the world.
At Dolands we have the expertise to educate and assist you in your diamond buying decision. We have graduate gemologists trained by the Gemological Institute of America, the most prestigious school in the world for the study of gems.
Frequently what seems like a bargain priced diamond in the market place may not be all that it appears. Many factors affect a diamond's value. Rest assured, at Doland Jewelers we guarantee that our diamonds will be graded in accordance to the Gemological Institute of America Standards. Long-term thinking is the reason we rarely have sales or haggle over price. Every client gets our best price everyday. So you wont have to work on your negotiating skills, or time you engagement to coincide with a sale.
The combination of fine quality diamonds and our most knowledgeable staff makes Doland Jewelers the best place to make your purchase. Become part of our family tradition of giving fine jewelry.

The 4 C's
Carat Weight
At Doland Jewelers, quality can be found in diamonds of all shapes and sizes.
Carat weight is a term used to grade weight not size. One carat is divided into 100 points so that a diamond of 50 points weight .50 carats or 1/2 of a carat.
Though carat weight is the most visible of the four C's, two diamonds of equal size can hold very different values based upon the quality of the diamond.
Cut
When a diamond is cut to ideal proportions, all light that enters from any direction is reflected and dispersed into a ray of colors through the top of the diamond.
If a diamond is cut too deep light passes through the bottom of the diamond and the stone will appear dark.
If a diamond is cut too shallow, light also leaks out through the bottom of the diamond and it also appears dark or glassy.
Clarity
Clarity is the fingerprint that nature has left on your diamond. The size, nature, location and amount of inclusions determine a diamonds cost. A diamond in the VS or SI clarity rang with small and almost undetectable inclusions may be equally beautiful and less costly then a flawless diamond. In the imperfect category, meaning an I1 clarity or lower, the inclusions in the diamond will, if you look closely, be visible to the naked eye.
Color
The most valuable color for a diamond is the lack of color. Most diamonds though appearing colorless may have slight tones of yellow or brown. The more apparent the color is, the more the cost of the diamond decreases.
A colorless diamond allows white light to pass through a diamond effortlessly and be dispersed as rainbows of color.

Diamond Care & Budgeting
Diamond Care
Though diamonds are the most durable of gemstones, care should be taken to protect a diamond from sharp blows. It is also important to have the setting checked to make sure the diamond is tight. Dolands will do this at no cost any time. We recommend that you have it done every six months. To clean your diamond ring you may use a jewelry cleaner and soft bristle brush or a home ultrasonic machine with its recommended cleaner. You can make your own cleaning solution using one part ammonia to four parts water. You may soak your diamond jewelry for one half hour.
Careful
Do not clean with your ring on because the chemicals may damage it. Try not to wear it when you are swimming as chlorine is also not good for it. Take time to remove your ring anytime you know that you will be doing any activity that could cause damage.
Time to Splurge
It is suggested to spend two to three months salary on the engagement ring. This is more of a guide line then a rule. It is important to find a price that is comfortable for you with a ring that is perfect for you future fiancé.
Don't Forget While shopping for a diamond it is important not to get so wrapped up in the 4 c's that you forget why we value diamonds in the first place. People wear and cherish diamonds as everlasting objects of beauty that symbolize their love and commitment.
